Campaign Story

Hi. I’m Lucy. Since my mid-twenties I’ve suffered from fibroids. They caused me a lot of pain, many health issues, was hospitalized many times and that’s on top of four Myomectomies all major surgery and one final hysterectomy last year. I’m now in my early 40s and I’ll never, or have ever, get to say or experience being pregnant but I still hope for the miracle of motherhood. My husband and I are starting the process to surrogacy. We know the road ahead will be long, scary and very expensive. We’re hoping and praying the doors that need to open, get open and that one way or another our dream to be parents comes true. I’m writing this a few days before Mother’s Day. For many women like me, this time is so hard. The reminder of that big hole in my heart, seems a little bigger and seems like it will never go away.

One of my favorite songs by Plumb says “everybody’s got a story to tell. And everybody’s got a wound to be healed. I want to believe there’s beauty here. ‘Cause I get so tired of holding on. I can’t let go, I can’t move on. I want to believe there’s meaning here.” I’m doing this fundraiser because I want to believe there is hope for us to be parents. That there is hope for me to be a mom. Thank you.
