Campaign Story
Hey y’all! My name is Kelly and I am a carrier for a rare, terminal disorder called mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) II, or Hunter Syndrome. My husband and I lost our amazing angel baby Elijah to this horrible disease, shortly before his fourth birthday. After he was diagnosed, I had genetic testing myself, which determined that I am a carrier. Hunter Syndrome is x-linked, which means that any future children with my eggs have a 50% chance of being affected by the disease (if male) or being a carrier (if female).
We cannot bear the thought of putting another child through the weekly hospital stays and bone marrow transplant that Eli had to endure, so we turned to IVF with genetic testing. I had two egg retrievals, which both resulted in embryos that tested positive for MPS II. After much prayer and discussion, we have decided that adoption is our best option, and embryo adoption specifically. We are excited for this opportunity to give these children a chance at life that they might not have had otherwise. We are thankful for the couple that chose to donate their embryos so that we can continue to grow our family.
