Our Journey to Parenthood

Hi, we’re Addie and Melissa. Our fertility journey began four years ago when we started discussing our dream of starting a family, just two years into our marriage.

We took our first steps with check-ups and IUI treatments. After an unsuccessful first attempt, we were overjoyed to learn that we were pregnant with our second IUI. However, our excitement turned to heartbreak at our follow-up appointment when we found out I was experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. For those unfamiliar, this occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, typically in a fallopian tube. Untreated, an ectopic pregnancy can lead to life-threatening complications, so I received treatment to intervene.

Undeterred, we tried again and were thrilled to discover another pregnancy. Unfortunately, this one was also ectopic, this time in my other fallopian tube. I had to undergo emergency surgery to remove the ectopic tissue.

Due to ectopic pregnancies significantly increase the risk of recurrence, my fallopian tubes were removed as well. This all left us on an emotional rollercoaster. After these experiences, we decided to take some time to heal, but our dream of growing our family never wavered.

Now, four years later, we feel ready to begin this journey again, with renewed hope. However, the financial situation has changed, as IUI is no longer a viable option for us. Our only path forward is IVF, which comes with a hefty price tag.
