Campaign Story

Hi everyone! My name is Alexis Martell. My husband and I have been trying for over 6 years to have a baby, and unfortunately, things aren’t quite working out for us. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis, PCOS, a septate uterus, and some extreme hormone imbalances. In October 2021, I went through a pretty tough surgery called a laparscopy procedure to clean up some of the Endometriosis and clear the uterine septum. I was told the surgery would increase my chances of pregnancy greatly. The surgery was about a year and a half ago, and we’ve still had no luck. In addition to the surgery, we’ve done multiple rounds of Clomid, timed intercourse, IUIs, and hormone therapy. After years of trying and the heartbreak of feeling so hopeful month after month while trying different treatments, we’ve decided IVF is our only remaining hope.
Asking for donations is completely foreign to us… I know there are so many others who deserve funding…but there’s just no way we could proceed IVF without help. I’m so blessed and grateful to be a full time middle school English teacher, however, even on the most strict of budgets, we could never afford the costs of IVF. Although I’ve been unsuccessful in my own pregnancy journey, I’m eternally grateful to serve as a mother figure to the 100s of students that I’ve had over the last 8 years. Their acknowledgement and kind words telling me that I’d make a great mom someday assure me that it’s a purpose in my life I will fight to pursue. Being a teacher while dealing with infertility can also be a really bitter battle. On one hand, I receive tons of love and reassurance from my students, but at the same time, I’m constantly surrounded by kids that aren’t my own. Despite these challenges, I wake up everyday grateful to be here and be there for “my kids” even if they aren’t “my kids.” I’d like to think I inspire my students to follow their dreams and create a life they’re proud of. I know they’d encourage me to do the same.
Thank you for your time and consideration in making our dreams come.
