Campaign Story

My name is Danielle. My wife Amanda and I are hoping to be able to begin a family together by way of ivf. My wife is the strongest person I know and has been fighting for a majority of her life. At the age of 13 my wife was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. She fought her way through chemotherapy and after having a total hip, knee and femur replacement, she taught herself to walk again.  This was not the end of her battle. Postoperative infection and the extremely unlikely fracturing of a titanium femur caused my wife to have to undergo this massive surgery again and teach herself to walk all over again. I would like to say that’s where my wifes fight came to an end and that life suddenly became great however that’s not the case. After an emergency room visit for extreme pain and shortness of breath my wife found out she has stage 4 endometriosis which has resulted in her having to have an ovary removed immediately. The doctor told her she will likely result in her having to have the other one removed also and recommended that have a complete hysterectomy. She decided to hold off on having the surgery in hopes that one day she will be able to have a child of her own. Due to the severity of her endometriosis it is unlikely that she would be able to carry a pregnancy to term. That is not the case for me however so I would be able to carry the pregnancy to term and since she still has one remaining ovary we would be able to use her egg and a donor sperm allowing my wife to be biologically related to the child.
My wife has been fighting for her entire life and now that we are ready to move forward with our next chapter of life. Becoming a mother would mean the world to my wife and being able to give her a child would mean the world to me.
