Campaign Story

My name is Mellisa and I have polycystic ovary syndrome which has lead me down a long journey of difficulty getting pregnant naturally. I am an early childhood and elementary school teacher and have so much love for children. I have been a teacher for 13 years both in the U.S. and English kindergarten in South Korea. I am approaching the age of 40 and will soon miss my opportunity to retrieve any viable eggs. When I am asked why I don’t have any children my eyes well up with tears. I choke back the tears, smile, and say, “someday”. If I can freeze my eggs before it’s too late my life will have so much more hope for the future. Unfortunately, teaching doesn’t make quite the amount I wish it did. The one passion that I dedicated my life to is nurturing and helping children develop and it is the one thing that my body won’t allow me to have. When I started having complications after my first laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy I was devastated and heartbroken. The doctor told me it would be hard to get pregnant with my condition. My ovaries keep forming new large cysts that must be removed surgically when they get too large. I help teach and provide care for so many children and my dream is to one day have a child of my own with the one I love. I hope and pray for this everyday. Please help this teacher’s dream come true!
