Campaign Story

My name is Allison. My husband and I have been struggling with infertility for over 4 years. I recently found out that I have PCO. This is similar to PCOS. The only difference is that I don’t get all the symptoms (facial hair, pelvic pain, etc.) A few years ago, my husband learned that he had a varicocele. This is pretty much just an enlargement of veins in the scrotum, which causes sperm to overheat and die. Realizing that this was our main cause of infertility, we sought treatment with a Urologist. James ended up having a surgery to correct this, with very little improvement in his sperm count.
We had tried several different treatment options, including 5 IUIs and IVF. We did complete one egg retrieval and 2 transfers, one fresh and one frozen. Unfortunately, we did not get enough embryos that made it to the next stage, so we only had 3 to work with.
The 5 IUIs were thankfully covered under my insurance, with me only paying my copay for the visit. However, for the IVF, we have to pay out of pocket, which is very hard to do in today’s economy.
