Campaign Story

Our names are Brittany and Ryan and we have been on our infertility journey for about 2 years. We met with a reproductive endocrinologist in March of this year due to recurrent miscarriages that started in January of 2021. After several procedures and lots of blood work later, it was discovered that Ryan carried what is known as a balanced translocation in his genetic makeup. This diagnosis would have a 1 in 4 chance of affecting our child with Van Der Woude syndrome, cleft lip/palate, muscular atrophy, or several developmental and physical delays. It was recommended by both our REI and the genetic counselor that IVF with pre-genetic testing would be our best chance of having a healthy pregnancy and baby. We were also offered IUI (intrauterine insemination) with a donor. We will be happy to do what must be done to have our child, but would prefer to know that it both mine and Ryan’s child genetically. We are not ready to give up on our journey to parenthood yet.
