Campaign Story

Hi my name is Shayla, and my husband’s name is Shawn. We have been married for 4 years it will be 5 in September. Shawn and I have always know we wanted to be parents, right after we got married we started trying to have a baby. We tried the natural way for 2 years before I finally said something to my OBGYN, she wanted to run test on me and start me on some meds to help with my irregular period. We did about a year of us trying to figure out my periods and to get them to be more regular, when we still weren’t getting pregnant we started doing some test, after lots of blood work and some internal ultra sounds we found out that I have PCOS. PCOS is Polycystic ovary syndrome, this can cause me to have a hormone in balance, and many small sacs of fluid develop along the outer edge of the ovary. After they found out that I have PCOS, they wanted to do a sperm analysis on my husband. When the OBGYN, and the Urologist did there sperm analysis they said they he had low motility. So they just weren’t getting to where they needed to go fast enough.

After we got these two diagnosis my OB told us that the best course of action would be to do IUI’s. We did 3 rounds of IUI’s and they all failed. After the 3rd failed IUI, and seeing all those negative pregnancy test we wanted more answers so we decided to go to a fertility clinic.

We had to go through more test and found out that Shawn actually has low sperm count, along with his motility being low. So the only way we will be able to grow our family is through IVF. That was a scary thing to hear, but I know we will be able to get through all the highs and low of this journey cuz we have each other, and a support system that is there to listen to us complain or just cry.
