My name is Lachana Monroe, and my greatest hope is to build a safe, stable future for my daughter and myself. After escaping a five-year domestic violence relationship, we found refuge at a shelter in Ocala, Florida. With their incredible support, we moved into our very first apartment—a place of our own. For a while, I was rebuilding. I found a job, even though it meant riding my bicycle miles in the dark after midnight shifts, because providing for my daughter was everything. But that journey became unsafe, and I lost that job. Since then, despite my relentless efforts, a new opportunity hasn’t come.

Now, we’re facing our hardest challenge yet. I am two months behind on rent, and the fear of losing our home is constant. I homeschool my ten-year-old daughter, but I can’t afford the basic supplies she needs to learn and thrive. My dream is to create lasting stability by starting a small laundry service for the elderly in our community. It’s more than a business—it’s a way to finally stand on our own feet and secure the future we fought so hard to reach.
