Campaign Story

After a year of trying to start a family of our own, we decided it was time to start testing to see if there was anything preventing us from getting pregnant. After we both underwent testing, we found out that Kelsea not only has Endometriosis but also a uterine malformation called a Unicornuate Uterus. A Unicornuate Uterus is a rare congenital malformation where only half of the uterus develops. Only approximately 0.4% of the population has a Unicornuate Uterus. Of all the uterine abnormalities, this is one of the most rare.

Because of this, Kelsea only has one functioning ovary and fallopian tube (instead of two) and a much smaller uterine cavity, which can make it difficult to not only conceive naturally but to sustain a pregnancy to term. During surgery, they were able to remove the endometriosis, but unfortunately, there isn’t anything that can be done to fix her uterus.

Our first fertility consult revealed a 10% chance of natural conception. Over the next two months Kelsea will be starting a new medication and having routine monitoring ultrasounds. We will then meet with the doctor again in April to go over all of the lab work, most recent procedure, as well as the results from the ultrasounds and discuss more invasive treatment options.

We are so thankful to finally have some answers, but we are also aware that this could be a very long journey. We are excited to share that we will be undergoing fertility treatments with Dr. Shavell! Though we are hopeful the treatments will work, we also know how expensive they can be. We are fundraising to help cover the cost of the surgeries, ultrasounds, medications, and procedures throughout our journey.

Thank you for taking the time to read some of our journey. If you aren’t able to donate, please consider sharing our journey! It takes a village, and we are so thankful for the village we were blessed with!
