Campaign Story

Aloha beautiful donors!

Let’s dive right into it! My name is Sara and my husband and I are going through the IVF process in Hawaii. This was an adventure for both my husband and myself. He required a TESE procedure (sperm search & rescue mission) after being diagnosed with secondary male infertility. We were able to move directly to IVF because of the male factor coupled with a blocked fallopian tube due to surgical scars from an ovarian cyst removal. We are grateful to have 5 embryos on ice ready to transfer. Unfortunately our first transfer didn’t end in a live birth, I miscarried. We are heartbroken, but realize we aren’t getting any younger, I am 35 and he is 53, and we need to try again. And we can, after we pay our clinic $4,300+tax.

So that is the gist of it. If you care to know who the two kids are in the goofy photo or just a little bit more about us and this journey then read on. If not, I thank you for your time just as well.

A little more about us. My husband is a Correctional Officer of 20+ years and a veteran. I am disabled, I’ve had symptomatic lumbar (foraminal & central) spinal stenosis since I was a child long before I was able to read or pronounce any of my diagnosis. I’ve worked since I was 14 and then had to quit my career in specialty pharmacy 2017. This was hard to accept but allowed more time for me to care for my two non-verbal autistic and intellectually disabled step-kids. I postponed wanting to ttc until I really felt we had a great relationship and good routine in place. In 2019 I felt we did. So one by one I got off all the medications that got me through my day, the opiates, steroids, nsaids, antidepressants etc. And 6 months later we were ready! I also legally adopted the kids in 2020! The standard 12 months they say to wait had passed and nothing had happened. We got our testing done and 6 long months of waiting for sperm to appear then another 4 months to get an appointment with urology to do the sperm expedition and we finally got our embryos! We did elect for genetic testing once I heard the price tag on each transfer. We ended up with 5 “normal” and 1 mystery (inconclusive) embryos in the freezer. And here we are. Awaiting the start of another transfer cycle with interest rates skyrocketing and living in one of the most expensive states in the US. So I figured I would see if anyone who felt the urge to give money away would give it our direction.

I appreciate each and every person on this site reading through these stories looking for people to help. Having kindness in the world makes all the difference in life.

Love and Aloha to all of you!

P.S. I apologize for the old and low quality photos. Recent photos are being rejected for high of resolution.
