Campaign Story

My name is Mariah Lewis. I had my tubes tied at 17 and was told by my doctor that my tubes would come undone in about five years. It was September 2009 when the procedure was done. In 2014 I met the love of my life who I started to plan a future. Before becoming husband & wife, my husband & I went through a miscarriage with our 1st pregnancy, the second pregnancy we had an ectopic pregnancy, the 3rd time we conceived we thought this was it. It was a normal a day we were about to head our on date and started to experience excruciating pain on one side of my abdomen. So we decided I would lie down and rest and maybe the pain would ease up. As time passed by the pain became unbearable and we went to the emergency room. When we arrive and after be called back we found out that I was having an ectopic pregnancy and that the baby was in my tube and that it had ruptured & I was bleeding internally. My doctor immediately rushed me into surgery to stop the bleeding & terminate the pregnancy. It was the most devastating day of our lives. It was life or death. After undergoing surgery, my doctor told me that the doctor that did my tubal ligation actually cut parts of my tubes out where they were unable to be reversed. I lost faith at some point and was terribly devastated knowing that I may not be able ro ever birth my husband a child of our own.
