Campaign Story

My name is Mayra Farias and my partner and I have always dreamed of starting our family. This journey, has come with its own set of unique challenges and moments of hope. As a carrier of the BRCA1 gene, our path required careful planning and additional genetic testing to ensure the health and safety of our future children. Given my genetic background, we took measures in selecting a donor who was a genetic match for both my partner and I. Our first round of IVF was a rollercoaster of emotions. After all the medical procedures and embryo testing, we learned that we had one healthy embryo ready for transfer. Unfortunately, despite our hopes and the successful transfer, the pregnancy did not progress, and we faced the heartbreaking reality of a loss. The financial aspects of our journey have not been easy. We utilized my company’s lifetime grant for our first round of IVF. However, with that resource exhausted, my parter and I made the decision to pursue a second round.
Despite the setbacks and challenges, our commitment to stating a family remains unwavering. We continue to look forward with hope, knowing that every step, no matter how difficult, brings us closer to realizing our dream of becoming parents.
