Campaign Story

My name is Crystal and my husband’s name is Donald and we have experienced the path a lot of couples walk: prevent pregnancy since 2014. In 2015 I was able to conceive naturally but miscarried before 6 weeks. In 2016 we decided to seek fertility treatment with Washington Fertility Center and I did IUI. I got pregnant first try but then miscarried again before 6 weeks. With unexplained infertility, my husband and I decided to keep trying naturally and I again got pregnant in 2018 but it ended in an ectopic pregnancy and I had to have emergency surgery and had my right tube removed. We decided to go to Shady Grove and did blood work, genetic testing, chromosome testing, semen analysis the whole works. Everything came back normal. So we decided to keep trying natural. As years roll by I started to lose hope and we came across CNY Fertility and decided to start fertility treatment with them since it was less costly than other fertility centers since our insurance does not cover fertility treatment. I did an HSG test and found out my left tube is blocked so that explained why I was unable to conceive all these years of trying. Now our only option is IVF. I did a saline sonogram and found a polyp on my uterus and had it removed in June 2021. Now we were able to start our IVF journey. We did an egg retrieval in July and only came back with 3 eggs that were fertilized. We decided to do a 3-day fresh transfer and transferred 2 eggs. Unfortunately, neither was implanted. I decided to take a month off and started again in Sept with our last embryo. We did a frozen transfer on Sept 21, 2021, and I couldn’t believe it took and I was pregnant. I continued to go to monitoring appts, but then I had a scare and started bleeding. Come to find out I had a cyst and SCH which is common with IVF. They did see a gestational sac and yolk sac but my HCG levels dropped. I again went to have more blood work done a few days later and my HCG levels dropped more. I was told to stop all my meds and that I would be miscarrying again. I was 7 weeks and 2 days this go around when I miscarried. It has been an emotional rollercoaster for both my husband and me. All we would like to do is complete our family. We have decided to start a fundraiser to help raise money to go toward our IVF journey since our insurance does not cover fertility treatment. We are grateful that the gift of parenthood is allowing us to tell our story.
