Campaign Story

Trina and I have been together over 15 years. We chose to spend the first 14 of those years caring for other members of our family and raising our nephew. We delayed having the family we hoped for in order to focus on the family that needed us. I dedicated my life to working for and protecting children, while Trina longed for a child of our own working in lawn care and pest control. We thought she’d be the one to carry but a few years ago Trina had to undergo a hysterectomy. We did not believe I could carry as at age 19, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and underwent a procedure that caused significant scar tissue. For over a decade I was told conception was not possible, or if I did conceive it would be very high risk. We thought we had reached the end of our path for a family of our own.

About two years ago I was told I may still have a high risk pregnancy, but my odds of conception are good. Trina and I decided it was time to put in everything we had to creating a new life and a family of our own. We sold our home, moved 2500 miles away from everything and everyone we have ever known to buy a home to fill with children and laughter. We wanted a slower paced lifestyle and a fresh start. I still get to work for children and families and well, Trina still gets to work pest control and we are still longing for a child of our own.

I’ve been medically cleared to try to get pregnant. There are a number of risks, my “advanced maternal age”, my weight and my genetic disorder that effects my joints. But, we will never know for sure if we don’t try. Anyone who knows me knows I’m all about overcoming the odds and a little pain and difficulty isn’t going to stand in my way.

We are still working on home repairs and planning to become a foster home. The cost of at home ICI supplies is about $1100-1700 per month, insurance will not cover same sex couples for the costs. We don’t have any voluntary donors willing to help us with this process. We’ve found the budget is tight and my window to try this is closing faster than I would like. We are hoping to try for at least 3 months.

After a lot of consideration and hesitation we have decided to humbly ask our friends and family to consider helping us on this path by donating to our fundraiser. Any amount would help and will mean more to us than you know. Thank you for reading!
