Hi, I’m Megan. For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of being a mom. It just took a while to find my perfect partner, my best friend, and other half. We’ve been married for four wonderful years, and for the last two, we’ve been trying to start a family. Watching our friends and family grow theirs so easily has been beautiful, but also heartbreaking, because it hasn’t been that way for us.

We’ve both gone through surgeries and countless tests, searching for answers. And finally, we got on. But it wasn’t the one we hoped for. My doctor told me that my egg reserve is low for my age, meaning my window to have a baby is shorter than we ever imagined. That news hit us hard, but it also gave us a path forward. After talking with my husband and our doctors, we decided that IVF is our best chance. By gathering eggs now and creating embryos, we can increase our chances of growing our family while we still have time.

But here’s the hard part. We’re both public servants: I work in a public school, and my husband is a first responder. Our jobs don’t provide any fertility coverage beyond the diagnostic process. So we paid to find out we have infertility problems, but no one will help us pay to actually fix them. The money we’ve already spent on testing and surgeries has stretched us thin, and IVF is a huge financial mountain to climb.
