Those who know me know that I’m a very private person and I don’t usually ask for help which is why writing this is extremely difficult. My husband and I have been married since October 2018 and since then we have been trying to conceive. In September 2019 I found out that I had a large cyst in my right ovary that was causing numbness in my right leg which required me to have my right ovary and fallopian tube removed. I was completely devastated because I felt as if my dream of having a family was going to get taken from me. I was reassured by my OBGYN that I still had the same chances of conceiving as a woman who still had both of her ovaries. So my husband and I have continued trying to get pregnant. A few months ago, I began having irregular periods followed by no periods which I thought may be because I was finally pregnant so I took several home pregnancy tests which were all negative. I then decided to schedule an appointment to see my OBYGN again to see what may be causing my irregular periods. After an ultrasound and some blood work it was concluded that I had multiple cysts in my remaining ovary. My doctor stated that my irregular periods were due to anovulation caused by the multiple cysts in my ovary. He said he couldn’t give me any medication to cause ovulation due to my ovary already being double the normal size from the cysts. He referred me to a fertility clinic due to my history and his new findings. After meeting with the fertility specialist and undergoing several more tests we found that my remaining tube is blocked and that I will require IVF treatments to conceive. We contacted our insurance company and were told that our plan doesn’t cover fertility treatments so we are responsible for all costs of the treatment including tests and medications.
