This is something Kyle and I have been debating on sharing but we have finally decided to share our story. We never thought it would come to this but we are on to our last resort of having a baby and that would be IVF (In vitro fertilization).

We have been trying to have a baby since October of 2018, after a few years with no luck I had blood work done and found out I had a thyroid condition. After a few months my doctor was able to get my thyroid levels down to a normal range. After that we had a lot of hope and kept trying naturally, after about 9 months with no luck I made an appointment with an infertility specialist. After lots of blood work and an ultrasound I was diagnosed with PCOS. From there I was put on Femara (also known as Letrozole), a drug to help induce ovulation. After a couple months of that medication and ultrasounds we still didn’t get pregnant. My infertility specialist then ordered a full ultrasound where they found polyps in my uterus and I would need to have a surgery to remove them. Due to covid my surgery date was pushed out for months, the waiting seemed like forever for us. After my D&C surgery on February 4th 2021 it took months for my body to regulate. I did one more cycle on Femara and trying naturally. When that failed we decided to try Femara and IUI (intrauterine insemination). We had our 1st IUI in August 2021, 2nd IUI in October 2021, 3rd IUI in November 2021, 4th IUI in December 2021, 5th IUI in January 2022, and our 6th IUI in February 2022. All failed. We were told IVF would be our best route and last option.

After doing some research we finally picked an IVF clinic and got put on a list for a consultation. After the consultation we received the price quote, definitely overwhelming. Sadly our insurance does not have any IVF coverage so that means we have to pay out of pocket. In the IVF world you pay separately for just the IVF procedures- that being egg retrieval, fertilization of the eggs, freezing the embryos and embryo transfer. That doesn’t include the price of medications, injections, anesthesia, separate surgery (hysterectomy), lab work, ultrasounds, zoom appointments and any other added treatments. Our estimated cost for just the IVF procedures is well over $10,000 itself.

Dealing with infertility is hard. It’s hard to explain to others that have not been through it, it’s like wanting something so badly but never being able to achieve it. It’s even harder to go through behind closed doors like we have been doing the last 4 years. It’s getting asked “when are you guys going to have a baby” and replying with “we aren’t ready” but going home to see negative ovulation/pregnancy tests on the counter in the bathroom. It’s putting on a happy face at a baby shower because you really are happy for others yet extremely sad for yourself and wishing one day you’ll be able to have one of your own. It really is a feeling we would never wish on anyone. The last years have changed me personally, I’m not the same person I was a few years ago and I’ll never be that person again. We’ve been through so much emotionally, physically and financially over the last years. Please just know that some people are going through struggles behind closed doors and aren’t ready to open up about it.

We have already spent so much money going through 6 IUIs, a surgery, countless ultrasounds, bloodwork and so many medications. We are hoping this fundraiser can possibly help us out in any way financially but also just by sharing our story so others know they are not alone.
