Campaign Story

First off, thank you, everyone, for taking the time to read my fundraising campaign and for helping to make our dreams come true. Posting this has taken a lot of courage and strength.

My name is Angie, and I’m currently interning at a non-profit organization dedicated to combating human trafficking and child exploitation. My ultimate goal is to transition into a government role where I can continue this vital work as an agent. I’ve never known exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up or who I wanted to become, but one thing I’ve always been sure of is that I want to be a mom. Over the past few years, my husband and I have been trying to have a baby. Unfortunately, he has a few genetic disorders that have resulted in recurrent miscarriages due to chromosomal abnormalities. Our medical team has advised us to explore IVF with preimplantation genetic testing to ensure that our embryos are genetically “normal” in the hope of achieving a successful pregnancy.

For the last couple of years, we have been diligently saving for this purpose. While my testing and egg quality have come back as “perfect,” we were only able to obtain one genetically normal embryo due to the rest having abnormal chromosomes. On 10/10/23, we underwent the embryo transfer, and although everything can appear “perfect,” there is always that chance it might not work due to the unpredictable nature of these procedures. Unfortunately, we fell into that 40% where it didn’t work. We are utterly devastated and heartbroken. We feel lost and angry. All we want is to have a child.

Our doctors are now recommending another round of IVF with preimplantation genetic testing, this time using a highly screened genetically normal donor, which significantly increases the chances of a successful outcome. We are feeling more positive about the potential success of this cycle. However, the cost of this process is incredibly expensive, and we need to pay a substantial portion upfront just to get started. We understand that this part of our journey will be emotionally and physically challenging, but we are willing to go to great lengths to bring a child into our lives.
