Campaign Story

Hello! Our names are Erika and Zach Wolters. Erika was diagnosed in 2017 with a condition called Immune thrombocytopenic purpura or ITP for short! ITP is an autoimmune disorder where your body fights off its own platelets. This can cause the person to bruise really easily, bleed internally, or even bleed out. Erika tried steroids first which didn’t work for her and actually triggered diabetes. The doctors then talked about removing her spleen, but this didn’t feel like the right option as she would be extremely susceptible to all illnesses and have to live extra cautiously without a spleen. So, she went through four weeks of immunotherapy taking rituxan one time every week. With rituxan, you should not try to get pregnant for one year after taking the drug. Even though her platelet levels have been safe since the immunotherapy, if she were to get pregnant she would be considered high risk as ITP could come back at any time. Once given the go ahead to try and get pregnant, it was never successful. We have tried for over 6 years to conceive naturally.

In 2021, we looked into adoption for the first time and ended up adopting a beautiful baby boy! Our dream has always been to have at least 2 children so they can grow up to be best friends and siblings. This leads us to now and why we are asking for your help. Adoption is expensive and after paying for the first one out of pocket, we have depleted our savings. We are hoping you would help us on our path to adopting again by donating to this fundraiser. Even $5 would mean the world to us and bring us closer to meeting the new baby God has for our family. Thank you for reading our story and for your prayers as well as financial support! It means the world to us to have a village helping us!
