Campaign Story

We are Jo and Kiara, two women in our mid to late thirties who are ready to begin the next chapter of our lives by starting a family together.

Jo is a full-time yoga teacher whose work has always centered around care, presence, and community. Kiara shares those same values through her role as Director of Operations for a behavioral health organization, supporting people and systems during some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Loving and caring for others has never been abstract for us. It is how we live, how we work, and how we show up every day.

Becoming parents has been a lifelong dream for both of us, and we began pursuing that dream intentionally at the end of 2023. During fertility testing, Jo learned she had uterine polyps that needed to be removed before trying to conceive. A D&C procedure was scheduled, and we felt hopeful that we were taking the right steps forward.

Then life shifted unexpectedly. The yoga studio where Jo worked underwent a company buyout, leading to restructuring and layoffs. Jo lost her job and health insurance just before her procedure, and our fertility journey was placed on hold through no fault of our own.

It took time to rebuild stability and navigate care without the safety net we had planned on. In September 2025, Jo was finally able to have the procedure, and after recovery, she was cleared to begin trying to conceive in January of 2026. Reaching that moment felt emotional and grounding, like we could finally move forward again.

We initially planned to conceive with the help of a known donor, a path that felt deeply personal and aligned for us. However, after a semen analysis revealed low sperm count and quality, we learned that our original plan was no longer viable. To continue moving forward, we now need to pursue donor sperm through a sperm bank and possible IVF treatments, a path that comes with significant and unavoidable costs.

Today, our family includes two dogs and a cat who fill our home with joy, routine, and unconditional love. We are ready to add a baby to that mix and complete the family we have been building in our hearts for many years. This campaign exists to help us cover the costs so we can move forward responsibly and thoughtfully on our path to parenthood.

To honor those who support our journey, we are creating a “Constellation of Care”, a custom nursery artwork where each donor’s name becomes a star in a shared night sky. Once our baby arrives, their name will be placed at the center of the constellation as a lasting reminder that they were welcomed into the world surrounded by community, love, and care.
