Campaign Story

Hello! My name is Brooke. I am a 38 year old Registered Nurse. I have loved kids for as long as I can remember, always being the kid taking care of younger cousins at family dinners. I chose a career in nursing to work at the Children’s Hospital so I could work with kids and later worked in Public Health- doing visits to the homes of newborns and their families.

Throughout all this I have desperately wanted children of my own but unfortunately never met the right partner to do it with. As the years passed and I watched those around me start their families, I decided that this is too important to let pass me by. I decided that as soon as I got a permanent full time position I would try to have a baby on my own. Partner or not I have so much love in my heart for my future child(ren) and I began to pursue this path 2 years ago.

The road so far has been full of unexpected bumps. There is no fertility clinic in my city so I started at one that approximately 2.5hrs away. As I excitedly approached my first IVF cycle at this clinic my excitement was quickly extinguished when it was cancelled halfway through due to a poor response. My second cycle resulted in 4 beautiful embryos and I found myself again full of hope and excitement. Unfortunately the first 3 embryos failed, including 2 early miscarriages.

After many consults at other clinics I found a doctor that gave me a renewed sense of hope. I shipped my last embryo to this clinic at great expense and flew/paid for accomodations for 12 days hoping this would be my rainbow baby.

Unfortunately the embryo did not implant and I am now starting the process over again. This involves choosing a new sperm donor and doing another egg retrieval.

This process has been incredibly challenging but I am telling myself it is strengthening the qualities I will need as a mom (perserverance, patience, the ability to advocate for what is best for me/my future child) and that is keeping me going.
