They have helped over 10,000 couples become parents using groundbreaking methodologies and compassionate care. IVFMD has been utilizing in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures to help patients conceive since 1991. They’ve seen and heard it all, but their most frequently asked question is, “How much is IVF?” The answer? It depends. We break it all down for you here!

How Much Is IVF?

IVF involves using medications to stimulate the formation of follicles in a woman’s ovaries to produce eggs. The eggs are matured and monitored by doctors until ovulation occurs. Healthy eggs are harvested and fertilized with a male’s sperm in a laboratory. Upon successful fertilization, an embryo is transferred to a woman’s uterus three to five days later to hopefully implant and result in a pregnancy.

It takes approximately eight weeks to complete an entire IVF cycle. The first month is the stimulation cycle, which takes about two weeks. Then, after the embryo transfer, fertility doctors have patients wait two weeks for a positive pregnancy test.

Find out what NOT to do during that two-week wait here.

Although IVF was initially used in patients with absent or severely damaged fallopian tubes, it is now being utilized to help patients facing endometriosis, low sperm count, abnormal sperm, and unexplained fertility.  IVFMD provides complete IVF care at its six comfortable office locations.

IVF Costs Broken Down

On average in the US, IVF costs around $12,000; however, there are often additional costs to improve the chances of a healthy pregnancy or to receive donor material. Genetic testing, embryo freezing, egg donation, sperm donation, surrogacy, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) can add thousands of dollars to the final bill. Here is a breakdown of potential “extra” costs:

  • ICSI – Up to $2,500
  • Genetic testing – Up to $7,500
  • Embryo freezing & storage – Up to $40,000
  • Egg donor – Up to $40,000 per cycle
  • Sperm donor – Up to $15,000 per cycle
  • Embryo donation – Up to $15,000
  • Gestational surrogacy – Up to $150,000

Are these national averages giving you sticker shock? Don’t stress—IVF is not as expensive as you think at IVFMD. IVFMD offers a variety of financial packages that make IVF affordable to most.
